5 Key Blog Writing Tips
This is a little like going down the rabbit hole, talking about writing a good blog, in a blog. It has the problematic effect of shining a light on said post. But enough self-retrospection (although this aside does neatly tie into the first point, below), this is about writing a successful, clickable and shareable blog. Among the many factors to consider, these five key points reign supreme:
1. Add value to the reader. A good blog will keep its reader at the heart of the message. Putting the audience first will ensure that it remains relevant and valued. Most online users spend less than a couple of minutes reading through blog posts, so make sure the content gives them something they need. It also goes without saying that a valuable blog is a shareable blog, and this is the ultimate goal.
2. Have a theme. The best business blogs out there, from fashion to food, are targeted. They know what they are about, and this of course means that they know who they are talking to. Having a clear theme, and remaining faithful to it will ensure that reader’s expectations are met and fulfilled. In short, your audience will know what they are getting when they visit your site.
3. Nurture a relationship. Welcome your readers with warm language and encourage them to interact with you. Blogging can be a wonderfully fluid way of creating a dialogue and this again, leads people to share and rate your efforts.
4. Make it memorable. The old saying of “all PR is good PR” doesn’t really count here. Being remembered for a sloppy blog post is not good practice, but being appreciated for sharing something useful, funny, creative or instructive while of course, being well written, are all great ways to raise a company profile.
5. Make it snappy. No one asked for an essay! Let’s be honest, the majority of blogs are skim-read. Hone the content. Give it a clear headline. Only thought provoking, relevant copy should make the cut. Keep it short and give your readers something to talk about.
